Eda (given name)
Found in: Turkish society Turkish feminine given names
Eda is a popular Turkish given name for girls, meaning good manner or behavior. However, it's spoken as Edali (full of Eda in Turkish) to define a woman who makes caprices and coquetry, who usually twists and who is mostly a bit arrogant towards men.
Eda was also the name of a goddess in nordic mythology which was the guardian of time and material goods. In Old English, Eda is the female version of the name Edwin which means 'wealthy'. Some interpretations consider it as a variant of Edith, meaning "spoils of war". In Old German it could be considered as a variant of Hedwig meaning "contention, strife", although the connection with this definition is not certain. However, Eda is also the variation of the name Oda, used in France in the 18th century and derived from the Hebrew "praise God".
